Images of the Castles Dancing the Gavotte, 1912

The four photographs featured below are available through the New York Public Library Digital Collections.

The fine print at the bottom of the images indicates that they are publicity stills for the 1939 RKO film production of The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle.  The photographs feature the actual Mr. and Mrs. Castle, rather than Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers portraying Mr. and Mrs. Castle.  According to the New York Public Library, the originals date to 1912, and were taken by a photographer named Ira L. Hill (Ira Lawrence).

While no additional description has been provided, the pictures appear to the the same images used for the Castles’ article describing the Gavotte.
